Texas Breastfeeding Coalition Conference Call – February 12, 2008
Overview of the USBC conference (deferred until later in the call)
- Train the Trainer for The Business Case for Breastfeeding.
- Linda and Alisa attended the training (Texas was one of the six states chosen to have delegates attend this first training).
- Grant money has been provided to implement the program which may include covering travel expenses of participants or trainers. Materials have been ordered (free of charge)
- Linda and Alisa will offer the first Train the Trainer which will be open to any participants and will be offered in conjunction with the spring meeting. Trainers may also go out to various parts of the state to provide the Train the Trainer training by request.

- Janet will apply for LCERPS for this training (expected 6-8 hours)
- Spring meeting Planning
- Date
- We discussed having the Spring meeting in early April. Suggested dates: April 4 & 5, April 18 & 19.
- Location
- We discussed having this meeting in Austin because it is easiest to get to from all parts of the state.
- An attempt will be made to find a site near the airport that does not have a fee. Susan Landers is checking on availability of the Dell Children’s Center Conference room.
- Janet Rourke is checking on using conference rooms at hotels near the airport. Both will report back by the end of the week.

- Update of USBC Conference
- Presentation of results of the WIC survey by Brian Castrucci
- Discussion of proposals for use of funding ($10,000 grant from TALWD, $10,000 grant from USBC for the Business Case for Breastfeeding, $4999 grant from Office of Womens’ Health, $1500 grant from Medela
- Day Two – 8:30 – 3:30 Train the Trainer – The Business Case for Breastfeeding
- Uses for possible funding opportunities discussed.
- Discussed hosting Breastfeeding Summit
- $10,000 TALWD Grant – members are encouraged to submit proposals for use of this money.
- $4999 Office of Womens’ Health grant – possibly be used for outstanding business award
- $1500 Medela grant – to be used for travel and expenses for Spring meeting.
- Jeannette Crenshaw reported on a discussion at USBC of using grant monies to design research to show effectiveness of TxTenStep programs preparing a hospital setting to progress to Baby Friendly.
