African American Breastfeeding Alliance of Texas
African American Breastfeeding Alliance of Texas is part of the National AABA, Inc. servicing the state of Texas. AABA’s overall purpose is to: increase the number of African American women (and women of African descent) who breastfeed; educate African American women about the infant and maternal benefits of breastfeeding; provide valuable resources about breastfeeding; offer on-going support to women who decide to breastfeed; and collaborate with other organizations that have an interest in the health and well-being of African American women and infants.
We target pregnant women, optimally, during their second trimester, and then follow up right after the birth with continued breastfeeding support and resources. By partnering with health professionals and agencies, we are committed to providing quality breastfeeding education, resources and support to African American women and the healthcare community at-large.
We currently have a toll-free warm line that is operated M-F from 9a-5p; 6 chapters (NW Houston, North Houston, 3rd Ward Houston, Austin, Bryan/College Station & Dallas), with one more chapter in Ft. Worth beginning in January; 1 Pro-breastfeeding Dads group mtg in NW Houston and AABA’s An Easy Guide to Breastfeeding for African American Women free publication.
