Texas Ten Step Programs

Texas 10 Step ProgramIn Texas, the Department of State Health Services and the Texas Hospital Association have developed the Texas Ten Step Hospital Program.  This program was designed to encourage hospitals and birthing centers to have 75% of their mothers’ breastfeeding at hospital discharge; to support breastfeeding before, during, and after delivery; and to provide mothers with information on breastfeeding resources in the community.  This program is based on the WHO/UNICEF Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. The difference between this program  and BFHI is this program is voluntary and self-reporting.  Once facilities receive this designation, they are encouraged to make further changes to become a BFHI facility.
